Project: PAPER, PRINT, PEOPLE

Our 2024 National Lottery Heritage Fund project Paper, Print, People investigated the history of paper mills in Exeter - their social and global histories as well as the details of process and production. Find out more in our Project Report .

· A team of community volunteers led the research with support from Dr Nicola Thomas, Head of Geography at the University of Exeter and several local historians and researchers.

· We explored the archives of Exeter Cathedral, Devon & Exeter Institution, Devon Heritage Centre as well as online records. A resulting research blog became a rich resource of all our discoveries.

· The project delivered a range of free community workshops in Exeter. We partnered with Devon Wildlife Trust to run papermaking and biodiversity workshops in schools and green spaces near the River Exe.
